Kim reached out to get help with getting her bedroom ready for her baby. She wanted to create a serene space where the many sleepless nights ahead would feel relaxing and calm. Kim already had her bedroom set and quilt, she just wanted repaint them room and get recommendations for new lighting.
Kim wanted the design to revolve around the family quilt and was particularly interested in picking up the yellows of the wall. We talked about a few options and Kim sent over a few trim ideas she liked.
One was the wall I did in my husband's office and the other was a wall done by Angela Rose Home and then a stock photo we found.
After discussing the average cost and timeline for the different types of trim work installs we ruled out a traditional board and baton style. With a baby on the way, they wanted to keep the cost as low as possible and they wanted to get it done before the baby was due in a month. Kim let me send over a design idea for a more streamlined decorative trim idea using colors and a few lighting options she had sent over and a lighting option I had found for her.
I sent over a few different options for the amount of trim boxes and widths we could do given the size of their room and the paint colors she was interested in seeing.
Kim fell in love with the yellow color scheme, the sputnik style light fixture, and touch lamps that would be convenient when getting up for the baby.
Kim went to Sherwin Williams to get some paint samples and sent over a picture of the colors on the wall. Together we selected the color we thought would work best.
This next part is a little unusual, but because I lived close to Kim I offered to come finish up the project as my gift for their new baby. I cut all the trim pieces at home and then brought them over to put up.
I painted all the walls in the room a cream color that matched the rest of the house and then worked on getting the trim up. I started with the outside two boxes and caulked and filled holes as I went along.
After I finished the boxes I painted everything with two coats and then it was ready to go. Kim's husband installed the new light fixture.
