Main Bedroom - Design

In this post I cover the design process for our main bedroom. I create a moody boho bedroom that takes the board and batten wall I made to the next level. I love our room and I hope you love reading about the process.

If you would like to see how I DIYed this board and batten wall, visit this post.

Where we started

Here is where our main bedroom started after we finished the wall. I knew I wanted new light fixtures and to change out our nightstands for some floating ones. The only thing we really wanted to keep was the bed which we got from Crate and Barrel several years ago.

Design Process

Alright so here is the design I put together. I created this rendering with Photoshop so I could see what the design looked like all together and I could try out different pillows and colors to see what I liked best. I wanted to stick with a moody boho vibe that would be cozy and would still be a place that my husband would like.

Implementing the Design

I added the lights. These lights are not wired up. I used the puck light trick to have a wall mounted light from Nesting with Grace. You can learn how to do it here. Basically you mount a light on the wall and then glue on a puck light.

I ended up choosing an outdoor light - which I know is unusual. However, I really liked the look of the matte black against the green of the wall and the sleek modern look. Would you ever use an outdoor light inside?

I then purchased and mounted the floating walnut night stands. I was so happy that they went with our bed perfectly. I was nervous the walnut finishes would be way off.

After taking the above photo, I realized I wanted to change the outlet to black so it would blend in more with the wall.

I put up the curtains and curtain rod because window treatments always help a space feel more complete.

The next step is choosing bedding that compliments your space without taking away from the feature elements. I really wanted the wall to stand out, so I chose neutral bedding with a blanket that complemented the green wall color.

You will notice I didn't design the space with any art on the wall. I played around with added a giant wall basket, but ultimately, I felt the wall speaks for itself. I may find something that I like that compliments it later on, but for now I am leaving it as is.

I added a few more decor pieces and here is where we ended up!

The space is looking amazing and it is still not done! I still need to get a rug and I am still on the hunt for a bench for the end of the bed. I also still want to hang plants from the ceiling to add some balance. It is going to be so great.

I love the process and journey of putting a room together. Having a vision when you start can keep your space from looking haphazard as you simply buy what you need/want without relating it to the whole picture. How close was the rendering at the beginning? Pretty darn close to the finished look.

I can help you create the vision for your space and give you a virtual blueprint to refer to as you have money or budget to bring it to life. I will make sure that the items selected are within a price range and budget you are comfortable with. Interior design doesn't need to feel intimidating or be out of your reach financially. Shoot me an email and we can set up a time to chat and walk through the process.
