I am so excited to be joining the One Room Challenge Spring 2022. This week the lights were installed by our electricians including the vanity sconces. I am in love.
The next step is to tile the floor! First thing first was to lay out the tile and make sure the spacing was going to work. They key was to make sure there wouldn't be any slivers anywhere and how to make it the easiest tiling job possible.
I have never tiled a floor before, nor had I ever used thin set. So this was incredibly nerve wracking project to undertake. I took it slow and worked my way down the bathroom. I checked every layer of tile to make sure everything was staying level. Hexagon was tricky. There was some finagling to make sure everything fit. Lots of running up and down the stairs to the bathroom and outside to the tile saw.
I used leveling spacers to help keep everything, well, level. This was particularly critical because the floor tile is handmade and had various thickness. To say this was an ambitious choice for my first time tiling a floor is a major understatement.
I ended day one of tiling here:
I had run out of thin-set and time. So I stopped here and started the next morning after another run to Home Depot. The problem that occurred is that with the hexagon there was a necessary amount of tweaking and with this tile set in almost literal stone, it made adjusting anything the day before impossible.
the last part was not quite as good as I would have liked, but I think it turned out ok.
I had so much anxiety working on my first floor tiling project. It was so stressful. I am in love with this tile and I just wanted to do it justice on my floor. I am super proud of myself for pushing through the anxiety and getting this shit done. It is going to be so good.
I have a transition piece that will between the bathroom tile and the basement flooring, but this threshold line is pretty if I do say so myself.
Stay tuned next week for when I complete the grouting and hopefully install a Vanity and maybe a toilet!
